There are a lot of poorly kept secrets heading into the 2026 fantasy football season. New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough isn’t really one of them. For one reason or another, nobody is taking him that seriously as a breakout candidate, but they totally should be.
After taking over for Spencer Rattler in the second half of last year, Shough flashed elite potential while leading the Saints to several wins and posting quality numbers.
There’s still concern over whether or not he’s truly “the guy”, while he also happens to be an older prospect, but the ceiling is too hard to deny in all formats. Wondering what you should do with him going into 2026? My Tyler Shough fantasy outlook breakdown will analyze his value in both redraft and dynasty leagues so you know whether he’s a good value, a buy, a sell, or a hold.
Recap of Tyler Shough’s Rookie Year
Shough has solid draft capital after New Orleans invested a 2nd round pick in him last year. He’s quite old for a prospect (26), but he sat and learned for half a year before taking over as the team’s full-time starter in week 9.
His initial debut was just okay, but Shough quickly put his talents on display in his second career start, churning out 282 yards and two scores through the air en route to a respectable 18.98 fantasy point outing.
That got him on everyone’s radar as someone to watch, but it was a 22-point fantasy effort a few weeks later – one in which he scored twice with his legs – that really got people’s attention.
Shough kept turning heads after that, piling on seven 17+ fantasy point outings in total, and registering three games over 21+ fantasy points. On the year, he completed 67% of his passes for a 91.3 QBR with 10 touchdowns to six picks.
It was a really strong rookie year, and the numbers don’t even showcase just how good he looked as a passer in most of that action. He was also helping New Orleans win games, so there’s a pretty strong case that Shough isn’t just a fun fantasy talking point; but actually a legitimately good quarterback.
Why You Should Be Interested
Whether or not you’re a believer in Shough, he does have a lot going for him.
Here is a quick checklist of what stands out for him and why he even deserves his own fantasy player profile heading into 2026:
- Strong draft capital (2nd round pick)
- Solid rookie season
- Elite offensive play-caller (Kellen Moore)
- Stellar supporting cast
- Rushing ability offers built in floor+ceiling
- Plays home games indoors
Usually when a player is at least a day one or day two pick, we can have some level of confidence that their franchise believes in them and wants them to succeed. The fact that Shough looked good as a rookie blends with that to make him a relatively safe bet to have a strong 2026 showing.
Shough is definitely old for a second-year signal caller, but he’s in an elite offensive system, has plenty of weapons around him, offers a nice floor with underrated rushing ability, and spends a good chunk of his games indoors.
Overall, this is a strong profile for a guy that isn’t going to cost you a whole lot, regardless of format.
Assessing Tyler Shough’s Dynasty Value
We know what the foundation is for Shough. Now we need to decide what his value actually looks like, what his cost is, and whether or not we should be aggressively targeting him in dynasty leagues.
For me, age is the only real deterrent here. Shough is already 26 years old, so if he doesn’t climb the ladder in a hurry – and the Saints struggle – there’s real risk of New Orleans cutting bait and starting over next year with one of the strongest QB classes we’ve ever seen.
But he also should be able to thrive in this setting. Right now, the age risk is keeping his cost down, and you can get him at reasonable rates in dynasty leagues.
In standard leagues he can easily be had for a 2nd round pick or a couple of fringe prospects. He should cost a 1st in SF leagues, but I’m more than willing to make that move in both regards, assuming the 1st is for 2026 or 2028 and beyond. I’m not interested in selling 2027 firsts for him, though.
Shough feels like a smash for 2026. There’s risk that his long-term upside may be non-existent, but if he can retain the starting gig beyond this season, I like him as a buy low option in all formats.
Should You Draft Tyler Shough in 2026?
The final question is what Tyler Shough’s fantasy value is in redraft leagues in 2026. I think it’s much better in these types of situations, as you’re not making a long-term investment and I see little reason for Shough to not find some level of success in 2026.
Shough also costs nothing in redraft fantasy football leagues. He’s available beyond round 10 in most leagues, although you’ll have to go get him considerably earlier in SF leagues. Still, he holds really nice value in all redraft leagues considering the cost vs. ceiling.
Overall, this is a guy I want everywhere. I think there’s a case to buy to sell in dynasty, but the cost should be cheap enough that he’s worth the risk. In redraft, the cost is so low that I’m not concerned about the return whatsoever. I would definitely pair him with a second quarterback (Malik Willis, etc) late in drafts, however.
