Let’s get the obvious out of the way: you can still draft Rashee Rice this year, so long as his risk is baked into the price and that you’re away he is even riskier now than he was last season.
Rice still offers legitimate WR1 upside thanks to his role in Kansas City’s offense and his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes. However, legal concerns, possible NFL discipline, and recovery from knee surgery make him one of the riskiest fantasy football investments this season.
The ceiling, talent, and role have always been there, and we were reminded of that again last year, when Rice returned from suspension to average 18.8 fantasy points per game (WR5).
The question, of course, is if he can keep getting by on potential, and if all the risk that accompanies him is something we should overlook.

The biggest storyline surrounding Rashee Rice has nothing to do with football.
After serving a six-game suspension in 2025 stemming from his role in the 2024 high-speed street racing incident, Rice found himself back in the headlines following a reported probation violation. Reports indicate he tested positive for marijuana, violating the conditions of his probation and resulting in an immediate 30-day jail sentence.
From a fantasy perspective, the concern extends beyond the jail time itself. The NFL now has another incident to evaluate, and while nobody knows whether additional discipline is coming, the possibility can’t be ignored. If the league decides Rice’s latest situation warrants further punishment, another suspension could be on the table.
Right now, that’s the cloud hanging over his fantasy value. Rice could easily still be a stud, but another ban could be coming, and depending on its length, it could be catastrophic for his fantasy value.

The legal concerns aren’t the only reason Rashee Rice fantasy football managers are nervous. Rice also underwent a cleanup procedure on the same knee he injured in 2024. The surgery, known as a debridement, isn’t generally viewed as a major operation, but it still delays his offseason preparation.
All signs suggest his recovery went fine while he was in jail, and Rice is fully expected to be ready to rock come training camp.
Even so, this surgery wasn’t on the schedule for Rice owners, and as shocking as that was, it was even crazier to hear that he’d have to deal with his recovery in a cell.
Word surrounding Rashee Rice’s knee has been positive, but until training camp is here, we really won’t have concrete information on his health. That creates a second huge red flag for anyone considering drafting him this season.

If we ignore the injury and suspension stuff, Rashee Rice’s fantasy outlook looks awesome. His cost remains high due to his talent, role, and production. And then there’s that ever-existent ceiling that suggests we may not have even seen the best version of him yet.
After returning from suspension last season, Rice immediately reclaimed a massive role in Kansas City’s offense and, as noted, was on a WR5 overall pace in fantasy points per game.
Just look at what he was doing with the Chiefs last year:
Patrick Mahomes clearly trusts him, and when Rice is available, he projects as the Chiefs’ top target. KC still doesn’t have many alternatives that scare anyone, either. There’s an aging Travis Kelce, the seemingly one-dimensional Xaviery Worthy, and little else.
The problem, of course, is availability.
Fantasy football isn’t won by projecting ceilings alone. Players actually have to, you know, play in order to accrue the stats necessary of vaulting them up the ranks. We can talk all day about Rice’s athleticism, short area explosiveness, role, and upside. But if he keeps making silly off-field mistakes and/or isn’t 100% healthy, it’s all meaningless.
Rice now carries multiple layers of risk:
- Possible NFL suspension
- Ongoing legal uncertainty
- Recovery from knee surgery
- A contract year with questions surrounding his long-term future in Kansas City
If everything breaks perfectly, Rice easily outproduces his draft cost. However, if even one of those concerns becomes reality, his season could unravel quickly. So, too, could his redraft or even dynasty value.
Should You Draft Rashee Rice in 2026?
If we are talking about Rashee Rice’s fantasy value solely in redraft, I do think there is merit in rolling the dice, but it needs to be the right situation.
Ideally, you’re landing him below his expected value. You also need to be comfortable embracing a volatile situation with a guy that historically has not been reliable when it comes to health or decision-making.
Taking a risk like this chases upside that could pay off, but it probably should be one of the precious few bold moves you make. The play is targeting league-winning upside. Unlike last year, though, you’re simply not getting as steep of a discount.
My personal preference would be to pass on Rice unless his ADP dips. If I feel like he’s slipping to the point of it being borderline egregious, I’ll strike. If I feel like I can get comparable value without the same risk, I’ll abstain.
Verdict: Pass (Unless he slides big time)

Rashee Rice’s dynasty value is not dissimilar to his redraft value. There’s major risk involved with this guy across the board, and obviously if you buy or hold and he smashes, it could pay off in a big way.
Rice is still young, is still productive, and he can still reach his ceiling if he gets his act together. It’s a bit alarming that there are whispers of Kansas City not wanting to sign him to a long-term extension, however.
We can’t know if the Chiefs will commit to him beyond 2026, but the fact that they haven’t already – not to mention the knee and probation issue – add up to a messy situation. And it’s one where I don’t really want to be stuck holding the bag in.
Rice is still only entering his age-26 season, and his talent hasn’t disappeared. Elite young receivers rarely become available at discounted prices, which makes him intriguing for rebuilding teams willing to absorb risk.
At the same time, dynasty isn’t just about talent. Repeated off-field issues can dramatically change a player’s long-term value. Kansas City may eventually decide the headaches outweigh the production, especially with Rice approaching free agency after the season.
And here’s the kicker for me: Rice has been a guy that needs manufactured touches. It’s quite arguable that his role wasn’t really working out from an efficient perspective down the stretch last year. And if he can’t work with the team that drafted him, is it possible he wouldn’t thrive in a new system?
All of this would have me a bit panicked. We don’t want to make emotional decisions, but the reality is Rice is a trouble star facing uncertainty, and yet we can still demand a future first-round pick (if not more) in trade talks. I’d take advantage of that while I still can.

There’s no debating Rashee Rice’s ability. He’s already shown he can produce like one of fantasy football’s elite wide receivers. The problem is all the baggage that comes with him.
Legal issues, possible league discipline, injury recovery, and an uncertain future in Kansas City all combine to make Rice one of the riskiest investments of the 2026 fantasy football season.
In dynasty leagues, I’d happily move him for a first-round pick if that market still exists. In redraft leagues, I’m interested only if his ADP falls far enough to properly account for the risk.
The upside remains enormous. But so does the chance that fantasy managers spend another season waiting for it to arrive.
