Travis Hunter STILL Playing WR? Jaguars Plan Revealed

travis hunter news

Thought Travis Hunter’s fantasy football value was toast? Think again. Per Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley, the idea that the Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to phase Hunter out at wide receiver has been widely misinterpreted.

Shipley recently pushed back on that claim, noting that comments from Jaguars GM James Gladstone have been taken out of context. Per Shipley, the franchise has at no point indicated that Hunter would stop playing both sides of the ball.

Rather, the continued expectation is that Hunter will simply continue his same two-way role, but could face a potential increase in snaps played at the cornerback position.

Head coach Liam Coen has reportedly leaned into the outside skepticism, embracing the narrative while maintaining Jacksonville’s plan for Hunter to remain a dual-threat weapon. How the Jaguars actually deploy Hunter during offseason programs should sign more of a light on his role going forward, but this latest report signals that reports of Hunter’s demise as an offensive player were possibly greatly exaggerated.

Fantasy Impact

This report is obviously very interesting if we can take it at face value. Numerous dynasty owners have over-reacted to the initial reports, which has seen Travis Hunter’s dynasty value plummet in recent months.

Hunter was already facing obstacles after having a pedestrian rookie season that ended with a knee injury. Adding reports of steep regression to the role that makes him the most valuable in fantasy football was understandably seen as horrible news.

Given this report, however, Travis Hunter is heating up as a big-time buy. Selling low at this point feels like a rash decision I wouldn’t suggest, and we can start warming up to the idea of attacking him more aggressively in 2026 fantasy football redraft leagues.

Hunter was always regarded as an athletic and dynamic receiver with a considerable ceiling, while ongoing Brian Thomas Jr. trade rumors could yet open the door to a massive target share.

As things stand, we’ve heard two very different reports on Travis Hunter’s 2026 prospects. This report brings it back to an even standing to an extent, at least to the point where you can feel reasonably good about drafting and holding Hunter this year.
