The Carolina Panthers might not be done adding to their wide receiver room just yet. Per Panthers.com, Carolina GM Dan Morgan has made it clear that the team isn’t fully satisfied with the position and may look to address it with the 19th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Speaking ahead of the draft, Morgan didn’t offer anything concrete, but said he refused to lock the team into a specific pick base on needs. Instead, he’s leaning into targeting the best player available.
After spending first round draft picks on Xavier Legette (2024) and Tet McMillan (2025), logic would suggest Carolina would want to invest a premium pick into another position. However, given Legette’s struggles to produce consistently, Morgan’s comments suggest another dip in the WR pool could be in order.
Fantasy Fallout: How This Impacts Legette & McMillan
If Carolina does opt to draft another wide receiver, that naturally could negatively impact the guys already on the roster.
Here’s a quick breakdown of where their top guys stand:
- Tetairoa McMillan – The current #1 guy for the Panthers. Another WR being added could cut into his upside, but more than anything having a reliable 2nd option would probably help him.
- Xavier Legette – A high upside but volatile asset, Legette was always a risky pick. He seems to be trending toward bust territory and another 1st round pick at his position would signal that for sure.
- Jalen Coker – The big winner from Legette’s demise, Coker is an offseason darling who has performed well. However, another premium pick invested at WR would very likely relegate him to the WR3 role.
Overall, Tet is safe in all fantasy football formats no matter what. Dynasty owners tends to panic about every single move, so if Carolina does take a wider receiver at 19, send out some feeler offers to see if you can acquire McMillan for cheap.
Legette was always a sell low candidate and this might confirm it. He’s talented, but he hasn’t figured the NFL out and may never do it. He has little to not value in leagues sized at 12 teams or smaller, but in deeper leagues you could trade him away for something before the draft.
Coker is the big asset that would experience the most movement, as a lot of people love him in dynasty circles. His value would be at risk of plummeting if the Panthers did make a splash pick at 19, so dangling him in trade talks before the draft is a good idea.
The Real Winner: Bryce Young
Bryce Young was shaping up to be a bust a few years ago. Heck, maybe he still will be. But last year he churned out solid production and had several spike weeks, not the least of which came in a surprisingly great playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.
He’s also gotten better every year.
Young showed enough to make him worth targeting at a discount in dynasty fantasy football leagues. He may continue ascending regardless of what help the Panthers opt to add to their roster, but going out and getting another big-time weapon would understandably boost his ceiling even more.
Young is still a risky long-term acquisition, but he’s shown enough to warrant some feeler offers, while he looks like a solid hold in big dynasty leagues (particularly SF).
Who Could the Panthers Pick at 19?
This is the big question. For the sake of this report, though, let’s keep it just to wide receivers. If the team has fully soured on Legette, that could be enough reason to pull the trigger and ensure Young has enough weapons to excel with.
There are several tantalizing WR prospects available in the 2026 NFL Draft, but judging off of prospect rankings and mocks, here’s a shortlist of the most likely WRs that could be readily available:
- Omar Cooper (Indiana)
- Denzel Boston (Washington)
- KC Concepcion
Anything can happen in the NFL Draft, but I don’t personally envision studs like Makai Lemon or Jordan Tyson lasting to the 19th selection.
That likely puts Cooper, Boston, and Concepcion on Carolina’s radar. Are those guys what they’re looking for and does their upside or NFL readiness move the needle enough to offset the impact another position might bring to the table? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Will the Panthers Draft a WR in 2026?
There is definitely an argument to be made for the Panthers drafting a wide receiver again, but my gut says they’re just playing both sides at the moment.
My belief is Morgan is saying this just in case an unlikely slide occurs. if Tyson or Lemon fall into his lap at 19, then sure, he may pounce. But Carolina has made concerted efforts to beef up their defense and Morgan is a former linebacker with a clear defensive mindset.
Continuing that effort and giving Bryce Young an elite defense may be just as helpful as adding another wide receiver. The Panthers still have needs at safety, and o-line, while their d-line and linebacking corps could always use a stud playmaker.
Tight end is also a sneaky need, as the Panthers haven’t had consistency out of the position.
If Oregon freak athlete Kenyon Sadiq miraculously falls to them, that’s something I think they’d be all over.
Fantasy Verdict
Ultimately, I think there’s a chance Carolina does add a weapon for their passing game, but I think it’d need to be a stud they can’t pass up. If one of Tyson, Lemon, or Saddiq aren’t staring at them, I think they beef up their lines or go get a stud safety.
As things stand, Tet McMillan remains a great hold no matter what happens. I’d be looking to trade Legette for whatever I can get, however, and I also think Coker presently has a decent amount of value and is someone I’d be dangling in trades in dynasty leagues.
I also like where Bryce Young is at and see him as a solid hold. He could potentially take his game to another level in 2026, with or without a new weapon. That said, if you’re solid at quarterback and someone wants to over pay, he’s someone I’m okay with letting go.
