De’Von Achane Contract Update: Will Dolphins RB Sign Long-Term Deal?

The Miami Dolphins and star running back De’Von Achane are no closer to agreeing to terms on a long-term contract extension.

The two sides have begun negotiations on a long-term deal following another brilliant season by the third-year rusher, but so far there’s been no serious progress in talks:

Achane’s name has been floated in trade rumors with the team making numerous franchise-altering moves. The team already traded away star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, while the team has also parted ways with former starters, Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa.

While change has arrived in South Beach, Achane has tentatively been described within the organization as a key foundational piece new head coach Jeff Hafley and the front office want to build around.

General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has also said that “nobody is untouchable in this business”, while the Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly has reported that Achane is likely seeking a close to a four-year deal worth $48 million or more.

To make matters worse, Achane opted not to show up at the team’s offseason workouts, although they were listed as voluntary.

Fantasy Analysis

Nothing to see here, folks. The fact that Achane hasn’t landed a huge contract extension yet is pretty meaningless, as he has earned a big payday and he’s getting it from Miami – or someone else.

It’s always possible a new regime will opt to dangle Achane for a haul leading into the 2026 NFL Draft, but Achane is more than just a running back; he’s an offensive weapon. With new quarterback Malik Willis already losing Waddle via trade, Miami would be wise to pay Achane and move forward.

For fantasy owners, it’s wait and see time, but there’s nothing to be worried about. Achane’s long-term fragility will always be a mild concern, but he’s still just 24 years old and has delivered consecutive RB5 finishes.

In redraft he’s a guy we still want to target and if you own him in dynasty leagues, don’t settle for anything short of the world. If you can get him for cheap from a panicky owner, though, don’t hesitate to pounce.
