WNBA DFS Picks – Top Plays for Friday

Basketball court

Yesterday’s WNBA DFS picks were a mixed bag. Alyssa Thomas hit and I updated things to target some Liberty. I didn’t have a choice, as Jonquel Jones was in my initial core, but she was scratched – along with Sabrina Ionescu.

Johannes was a decent value and Meessseman was solid enough. Not the best slate, but I managed to cash thanks to cramming Angel Reese into my lineup.

Your margin for error gets thinner on Friday night, as we have just two WNBA games to work with. Let’s see who should make the cut as I go over my favorite WNBA DFS picks at DraftKings.

Dearica Hamby, F, Sparks ($9.7k)

Hamby stands out as the best high-end value of the slate. She’s cheaper than any other stud tonight, but she owns the top projection. Her ceiling might only go up, too, seeing as Rickea Jackson is questionable to face the Fever.

Hamby looks good no matter what. Her price and projection look great compared to the slate’s other studs, she’s getting 30+ minutes in competitive games, and she continues to display a strong ceiling (41+ fps in 4 of her last 5 games). If Jackson sits, she’s the smashiest of smash plays, but I like her either way.

Amy Okonkwo, G, Wings ($4.1k)

Keep an eye on the Paige Bueckers situation. Arike Ogunbowale remains sidelined, but Bueckers sat out the last game with an illness and is Q once again.

Someone like Grace Berger is playable either way, but no Bueckers might make her a core play, even with her price tag jumping up to $6k. But Okonkwo is my preferred play, as she just signed another 7-day deal with Dallas and is out to prove she belongs.

On top of that, she’s played pretty well, is dirt cheap, and is by far the best value play of the slate in terms of P/$. That said, the Wings should be a great source of value. Even if Bueckers plays, they will be severely thin, so someone like Diamond Miller and really anyone on their roster is going to be viable.

I am also very high on Hines-Allen (yet another Wings player). She is a borderline core play and a lock for me if Bueckers is out.

Kelsey Mitchell, G, Fever ($10.6k)

Still no Caitlin Clark, so it’s the Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston show. I like them both, but when you factor in price and projection, Mitchell is the better play. They both project well and get good usage with CC sidelined, though, so pairing them is also an option.

Mitchell is getting rock solid minutes these days and exhibiting a nice ceiling (53 fantasy points back on 8/17). She’s been pretty steady with 32+ fps in 6 of her last 9 and multiple explosions of 43+.

This is a wild 2-gamer, as we do need the Bueckers news (she looks awesome if she’s active), and even without her we have a slew of decent plays we can consider. I’d start with this core, as I love these players even without the Bueckers news.

Oh, I’ll also note that Jordin Canada is doubtful for the Dream. Her absence opens up some value via Caldwell and Paopao, while Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray see elevated ceilings and are awesome plays.

FanDuel WNBA Core

Zero change to my core unless Bueckers is in. If she’s in, I’d splut the ownership between her and Hamby. But Hamby looks like the top play on both sites right now.

Okonkwo is a terrific value on both sites, too, while Mitchell is one of the best high-end plays compared to the other options when looking at price, role, and projection.

I will say this could leave some compelling plays a bit overlooked, but we won’t know for sure who stands out in GPPs until ownership updates later in the day.
