WNBA DFS Picks for Tuesday (9/2)

I am back from a small break. Hopefully everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend. I am in the heart of a complicated move, so I can’t say my Labor Day weekend was fun. That said, it’s nearing an end, and there’s money to be made on tonight’s 2-game WNBA DFS slate.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be counting the hours until the Week 1 NFL Showdown Kickoff slate, but for now WNBA DFS will have to do.

With that, here are my top WNBA DFS picks to build around tonight at DraftKings.

Alyssa Thomas, F, Phoenix Mercury ($12k)

Thomas is impossibly cheaper than Aliyah Boston. Picking between the two is a very easy choice. Boston’s price has come way up, and she simply has not been nearly as elite on a consistent basis as Thomas has.

Thomas is legit a walking triple-double, having topped 41+ fantasy points 10 times in her last 12 games. Boston has done that just three times over her last nine games. For upside and floor, Thomas is without a doubt the top pay up on this slate.

The only reason to go against her would be ownership, but I’m happy to take a stand elsewhere.

Natasha Cloud, G, New York Liberty ($7.8k)

This play is quite dependent on Sabrina Ionescu’s status. She has missed New York’s last two games as she continues to deal with a toe ailment.

If Ionescu is back I wouldn’t really be on Natasha Cloud, but she’s a core play if Sabrina sits. Cloud logged 31 minutes and put up 24.5 fantasy points last game. In an expanded role, she would be a strong play at this price tag.

Veronica Burton, G, Golden State Valkyries ($10.4k)

Burton feels expensive, but relative to the small slate and compared to the other top options, she is a slam dunk. She has a very similar projection to Aliyah Boston, for instance, but is a full $2.2k cheaper.

There’s also Breanna Stewart, but she is almost the same price and continues to be limited enough to where I don’t feel amazing about paying a premium for her services.

Burton has been rock solid, putting up 34+ fantasy points in each of her last five outings, and twice exploding to reveal her upside (two 54+ fp games).

FanDuel WNBA DFS Core

  • Boston ($7.6k)
  • Burton ($7k)
  • Cloud ($5.6k)

A little different on FD. Obviously Thomas is a stud and I’ll never say you can’t play her, but Boston is $1k cheaper there. She’s the easy pick for me.

Burton is even cheaper and much like on DK, I think she stands out above the other options once you get past Thomas or Boston.

Cloud also looks like a strong value on FD in the event Ionescu sits. That said, we do have appealing pivot options in the form of Natasha Howard, Natasha Mack, and Kalheah Copper if Sabrina is back and renders Cloud useless. Copper is a bit more expensive, but she’s the one I’d try to get to.
