NBA DFS Picks Today – Core Plays for Wednesday (2/25)

best nba dfs picks wednesday reed sheppard

Yesterday was a complete disaster. Two of my four core plays were absolute smashes. Santos and Pod nuked. But I rolled with Williams, who Washington decided to near-DNP by not playing him until the fourth quarter.

On top of that, a lot of us lost Jalen Johnson to injury. Not great! The best part is that slate has ended and this one (hopefully) can’t go any worse. If you want a head start to win on Wednesday, come build with me as I showcase my favorite NBA DFS picks, highlight the best stacking environments, and point out the top spends.

NBA DFS Core Plays for Wednesday

DraftKings NBA Core PlaysFanDuel NBA Core Plays
Reed Sheppard ($5k)Reed Sheppard ($5.7k)
Dennis Schroder ($4.6k)Dennis Schroder ($4.3k)
Jaylon Tyson ($5.2k)Jaylin Williams ($3.9k)
Jaylin Williams ($4.8k)Al Horford ($4.2k)

Update 2: Cavs are sitting guys. Jarrett Allen is in theory a smash, but Cleveland sitting everyone is worrisome, plus he kind of needs good players feeding him lobs to smash. Good play, but not without red flags. Schroder is simply too cheap for the spot and he grades out as a better value than anything OKC has in a way worse matchup. Tyson is going to smash and his projection feels way too low. This slate is certainly not short on value!

Update: OKC news dropped. Tough spot on the road, but the value is obvious. Cason Wallace is in play, but I want some Thunder value. Cade as a potentially unowned stud comeback is very interesting. Warriors guys still look excellent. I’d start with Horf but Pod/Gui/Moody also look great.

Reed Sheppard is the easiest click of the night. You can fade him due to ownership, but he’s too cheap at both sites with Amen Thompson sidelined. The matchup with Sacramento is also fantastic.

Kevin Durant also looks good, and you can play Tari Eason or Jabari Smith Jr. if you want. Sengun is the other Rockets player I feel is a borderline must, though. KD is a fine pivot and you can leverage both him and Sengun with Smith/Eason, but I’m just going to play the two best plays Houston has to offer and move along.

Golden State played last night, but they are once again offering solid value in the face of a smash spot. Podziemski’s price has gone up, but he still stands out as the top play from the Dubs. Horford is their best value and he looks great, especially if Draymond Green sits this one out.

Horford is a tougher cell on FanDuel since he is center only there, but his price demands our interest. You also can play Wemby/Sengun at PF there, so I would just play him.

Chet and Hartenstein are both Q and played last night. If they’re out I am going to be very interested in OKC value, starting with Jaylin Williams, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins. Cason Wallace has apparently turned into a god, but if he gets ownership he looks like a guy we can fade.

Wemby and Cade exist. You can try forcing them in with Sengun, or you can entertain pivoting off of Sengun and playing one of them instead. I’ll probably just play Sengun, but if I can get to one of them as well and it isn’t forced, I’ll be open to it.

Best NBA DFS Stacking Environments for 2/25

  • Warriors vs. Grizzlies (229.5 total)
  • Kings vs. Rockets (221.5 total)

I’m not forcing stacks ever, but especially not on a smaller slate. I think we just need to pick our spots. That said, we have interest in Golden State, so targeting some Grizzlies comebacks does make sense.

Memphis has more bodies than usual, but there are still some nice plays here in Ty Jerome and GG Jackson, while the game set up (no defense, fast-paced, high total) is appealing.

We want some Rockets, so considering a scenario where the Kings keep it interesting isn’t out of the question. I’d want to restrict my focus to guys I actually trust will play like Clifford, Murray, and Raynaud, however.

Wednesday’s Top NBA DFS Spends

  • Wemby ($10.9k)
  • Cade Cunningham ($10.7k)
  • Donovan Mitchell ($9.7k)
  • Alperen Sengun ($9.3k)
  • Kevin Durant ($8.8k)

These are the best spends of the slate. Not to say you can’t play Harden, Barnes, etc, but these guys look the best. Sengun is the best play of the slate IMO, but he’ll also be owned. There is a world where Durant nukes and Sengun doesn’t get there, so splitting these guys up across multiple builds makes sense.

You could also bank on a blowout or focus on Reed, Eason, and Jabari and go get low-owned studs in Wemby and Cade. Neither are in dream spots and don’t project light years above Sengun, but the ownership gap could be substaintial.

Spida isn’t always as appealing now that Harden is in town, but he does tend to get a usage boost when Evan Mobley is off the floor. That’s the case tonight, so Mitchell looks like a nice sub-$10k spend.
