WNBA DFS Showdown Picks & Strategy (8/20)

The WNBA doesn’t like consistency. It seems every day is a five-game slate, one-game, or no games. Maybe in their weird, warped way that is being consistent, but I can tell you one thing for sure; I hate it.

Today we get a WNBA DFS Showdown slate, which I loathe. If you’re planning on playing, though, I suppose you’d like some advice. My true advice is to not play this garbage, but if you do, here are my favorite Captain plays and preferred strategy:

Captain Plays: Bueckers, Siegrist, Quinerly, Plum, and Hamby

By no means does this mean you can’t play other options in the CPT slot. However, Plum and Hamby are the top studs for the Sparks and they have some of the best projections of the slate. LA studs tend to eat into each other, but typically one of them hits value. I don’t have a hard lean, other than I’d go away from ownership if either are chalky (ie, if Plum is pulling 30% ownership, I’d pivot to Hamby, etc).

Bueckers is probably the chalk, and rightfully so. She gets a usage bump with Arike Ogunbowale dealing with a knee injury.

With her sidelined, we’re looking at solid minutes if the game stays close and the upside is going tom be there. Bueckers is still a rookie that is now facing the defense’s attention even more, of course, so if she’s mega chalk, I have zero issue being a little under-weight or sliding her to the Flex.

If Bueckers isn’t your CPT, I’d be looking at options like Siegrist or Quinerly to save cash in the Captain slot and also possibly get different. Siegrist is expensive, but she has the second best projection among Wings players and is the only other Dallas option projecting for 30+ minutes. Heck, she’s the only other Wings player projecting for more than 24 minutes!

Hines-Allen is also in play for leverage when you factor in price, but Quinerly is the top target. Arike being out and Carrington no longer being around solidify her as a really nice value. She has a low floor, but she showed her ceiling two games ago and we should get 24+ minutes from her in a close game.

In general, I’d take a hard stance. Stack one side of this game more, and consider being under-weight on the chalk CPT. That doesn’t mean to fully fade or not roster them, just don’t play them as much as the field is.

FanDuel Strategy

The strategy isn’t much different on FD. It’s typically harder to stuff in studs there due to their pricing, but I am finding it easy on this slate. Bueckers is still the preferred option. I don’t mind Plum or Hamby, though, and would still try to get one of them across from Bueckers.

Quinerly still looks good there, but Siegrist is a little more expensive. Diamond Miller is popping as a wild P/$ play, but she is a pretty risky play and not super necessary. You honestly can get whoever you want on either site, but right now I find myself fading Hamby on FD due to a steep salary (prefer Bueckers).

As noted, that could render her a solid contrarian play, however.
