NFL DFS Preseason Core Plays (Friday)

Tiny 2 game slate at DraftKings to kick off week 2 of NFL Preseason play. This shit is volatile, so even the core can be dicey. Will point you to the plays I feel most confident in, and touch on some others I like as secondary options.

If you’d like a little more nuance to the slate, check out my NFL DFS Preseason overview for Friday.

NFL Core: Easton Stick, Brashard Smith, and Tory Horton

Cam Ward and Sam Darnold look likely to start and could see about 1 quarter of play. That’s enough to get me on them for GPPs, but they’re not safe at all.

ATL won’t be playing Cousins/Penix, so Stick and Emory Jones are probably getting a half each. Stick is the better option. Elite athlete who has looked more and more composed over the past couple of seasons. Jalen Milroe and Brandon Allen are the other “safe” QB plays.

Brashard Smith keeps turning heads in KC’s camp. Chiefs starters are unlikely to play in this one, so we could get a lot of Smith. As I’ve said before, teams keep pulling the plug early on guys who have positions locked up, so there’s risk here. That said, he could benefit from some field time and he is one of the better talents available to us.

Other great RB plays include Damien Martinez, George Holani, Carson Steele, Kalel Mullings, Julius Chestnut, Jashaun Corbin, Elijah Dotson, and Nate Carter.

In terms of safety, Martinez/Holani and Mullings look the best, with Mullings probably being my RB2 next to Brashard. I do like Steele as Smith leverage in GPPs and Corbin could be good Dotson/Carter leverage.

Seattle and Tennessee are playing their starters, so Walker/Charb/Pollard are all technically in play if they start – they just feel like thin and risky plays.

At WR, Horton is shaping up to be good chalk. You might want a runback that isn’t super owned to close out the night, or leverage his ownership with someone like Ricky White or Jake Bobo. That said, he is a fantastic play who still has to push for the WR3 spot.

Other good WR plays include Jalen Royals, Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Dylan Drummond. Royals and Aloymanor are the two I like the most to pair with Horton, while Drummond was super productive last week. He will likely get ownership due to that, so he could be a good fade.

Not giving out a tight end core play since the position is ass, but my exposure is down to Jared Wiley and Elijah Arroyo – two young TEs who need to earn a role or roster spot yet.

Chig and Barner could get 1 Q of play and are viable. Gunnar Helm is a rookie who could see ample playing time, too.

For DEF, I’d just create leverage by using a defense against an offense I’m not super exposed to. Not playing Milroe? Fire up the Chiefs. Fading Stick? Fire up the Titans, etc.
