Preseason NFL DFS Picks (Sunday, 8/17)

NFL Preseason DFS has been tough to hit on, but I definitely handed out some solid plays on Saturday’s main slate. Joe Milton was a bust, but the other QB I was all over absolutely nuked, while I also hit on my RB and WR play.

You can check over my NFL DFS preseason picks from Saturday to see where else I went right, but the focus should be on the here and now. Sunday offers a tiny two-game slate on DraftKings, and there could be some mild edge for us to take advantage of.

To be clear, there are not a ton of obvious spots where guys are guaranteed an insane amount of playing time. That said, these are my top targets, along with some analysis.

QB: Tyson Bagent (Bears)

Caleb Williams will start on Sunday, but it is unclear how long he will play. If we get concrete word that he won’t play more than a quarter, Bagent quickly becomes the play of the slate at the quarterback position.

Bagent was solid last week, but more importantly, it’s possible we see a lot of him with fellow backup Case Keenum recently missing practice due to injury.

If you’re not feeling Bagent, we can roll the dice on Caleb or other starters like Trevor Lawrence or rookie Tanner Shough. I even have a little interest in Nick Mullens, Mike White, and Spencer Rattler. The problem is none of these guys are locked into 2+ quarters (that we know of yet) so they are all risky.

RB: Bhayshal Tuten (Jaguars)

Tuten is a shifty and explosive back who saw a good amount of work last week. With the Jaguars playing their starters (but probably not too much), we should get a good look at him again, and likely more than we see the top two backs for Jacksonville.

I am betting on Tuten being out there and being efficient in 5-7 touches, but like everyone on this slate, he comes with some risk.

Luckily, there are a handful of RBs we can feel reasonably good about, depending on how news shakes out. Kyle Monangai saw a ton of snaps last week and should again be relatively buys, while I have to think the likes of Kendre Miller and Ty Johnson are two other backups that need to do a bit more to lock down roster spots.

For deeper dives that also carry some risk but might go overlooked, consider Lequint Allen, Frank Gore Jr., and Ian Wheeler.

WR: Kevin Austin Jr. (Saints)

New Orleans lost Bub Means to injury and their WR corps was banged up a ton last year, so I think they continue to give guys like Austin Jr. and Marcus Tipton long looks to ensure they’re making the right calls.

Tipton is also in play, but Austin saw more targets last week. A few other guys who benefited from playing time last week and could pay off again on Sunday include Parker Washington, Trent Irwin, and Tyler Scott.

I do not have a core play for tight end or defense. The Saints, Jags, and Bears are all in line to play their starters – possibly up to a quarter. I’d be game for trying out Brenton Strange, Kmet/Loveland, or Juwan Johnson, and just hope one of them hit.

If I had to vouch for one over the rest, it’d be Loveland. It’s possible he sees a little added field time to get acclimated for the coming season.

As for defense, we know its a crapshoot. I’d just try targeting the defense in the best position or go after a chalky offense you won’t be using. For example, the Saints could be a spot where people look for QBs and WRs, so I might go under-weight on their offense and use the Jaguars defense a lot.
