Hello to the people. I’m subbing in to write about Monday’s beefy 2-game WNBA DFS slate. Here’s hoping the WNBA can get through a news cycle without being dragged down into the typical right-wing nuttery, though, for some reason, I have my doubts that they will.
There is actual basketball being played in the WNBA – believe it or not – so maybe we should talk about it. Here’s how I’m lookin’ at this slate on DK.
WNBA DFS Core Plays for Monday
- Angel Reese ($11,700)
- Rhyne Howard ($10,200)
- Napheesa Collier ($11,000)
There is enough value on this slate to jam all 3 of these $10,000 players into your lineup, should you so choose. Angel Reese has been on quite a run of late, with 3 straight games of at least 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 3+ steals. Not bad! Reese’s minutes are sky-high on a nightly basis. The Sparks rank near the bottom of the league in most advanced rebounding stats, so, in theory, Reese should feast on the boards again in this one.
The Sparks are also literally the worst defense in the WNBA, yielding nearly 115 points per 100 possessions. They’re particularly poor defending the rim, allowing their opponents to shoot a blazing 69.9% at the rim. No other team has allowed foes to convert on more than 67% of their rim attempts. Reese lives around the rim on both ends of the floor, so it’s an absolute smash spot for her.
Of course, we can say the same of her teammate, Rhyne Howard. Howard is second on the team in scoring (18.2 PPG) while consistently contributing a handful of rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks every night. Howard has many avenues to racking up those sweet, sweet fantasy points, and, in the best matchup imaginable, it’s easy to see why she’s a primary option tonight.
My other favorite spend is the great Napheesa Collier. Minnesota’s matchup against the Valkyries isn’t quite as advantageous, but Collier’s a consistent stat-stuffer with a floor of 35 minutes (barring foul trouble) every night. She put up 18 and 8 in this very matchup less than a week ago despite a slightly less-efficient-than-usual performance from the field.
Simulations can improve DFS lineups and our tool is definitely one you’ll want to give a try. Don’t take our word for it, though. See what one of our happy users has to say about it before giving it a spin (just $7 for the first week).
WNBA DraftKings Picks for GPPs (8/24)
- Jordin Canada ($9,600)
- Olivia Miles ($11,400)
Sticking with the Dream Theme, Jordin Canada is also in a fine spot of her own against that porous Sparks defense. Canada isn’t much of a scorer given Atlanta’s other weapons, but she does lead the team in assist average (7.4), and assist opportunities should be plentiful with the team in such a favorable matchup. We’ve also seen Canada score at least 17 real points in 4 games so far this month, so she has taken a more aggressive offensive approach in recent games.
There isn’t much more to say about the great Olivia Miles, averaging 20 points, 6.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2 stocks per game. She’s a rookie, so not too shabby. She’s also a TCU Horned Frog like myself, so she’s also got that going for her. I doubt you’re really getting leverage on Collier considering both of the Lynx’ stars are likely to be popular on such a small slate, though I do think Collier will be a little chalkier than Miles at a $400 discount. If you want to fade Collier and pivot to Miles, I think that’s a sound strategy.
Monday’s WNBA DFS Values
- Cameron Brink ($7,700)
- Gabby Williams ($7,600)
If you want a bring-back from the Sparks with your Dream (Dreamers? Dreamists? Dream Teamers?) pieces, Cameron Brink is a nice value at $7,700. The former No. 2 overall pick does have a wide range of outcomes from a minutes standpoint – 12, 27, and 19 minutes in her last 3 games, respectively – but she does a little bit of everything when she’s on the floor. She’s not a particularly high-usage player, but she’s efficient when she does get looks. Atlanta is big and tough on the boards, so I like Brink’s chances of seeing elevated playing time in the matchup.
Gabby Williams is playing less minutes on average than she did during her time in Seattle, but she’s a consistent source of usage for the Valks. She was phased out of the last game against Chicago and saw just 14 minutes, though she’s also topped 30 minutes twice within the last week. She’s cheap with a path to usage in a game between a couple of contenders, and my favorite bring-back option on the Golden State side of things.
